O povo Português é muito prestativo, honesto, indiferente às regras normais de conduta nas sociedades da Europa Ocidental. Eles são abertos e amigáveis, atenciosos e solidários. Os portugueses recebem saudosamente os estrangeiros, indicando sempre a direcção da estrada e quando questionados sobre o melhor restaurante na cidade, dizem sempre uma lista de pelo menos dez.
Aqueles que não conhecem a língua Portuguesa, não irão experienciar reais mal-entendidos.
Os Portugueses não ignoram os estrangeiros e resolvem as situações usando gestos e humor.
Essas “conversas” acabam frequentemente com resultados curiosos, especialmente em restaurantes. Tentativas para falar Português serão sempre recebidas com respeito e com a desculpa de que “é muito difícil aprender a língua”.

Esta lingua não é o Espanhol ou a derivado do mesmo, e, portanto, não é aconselhável misturá-los. Assim, use o Espanhol em último caso (a menos que os Portugueses o incitem a falar esta língua). Não importa o quão livre comunicar Português parece ser, é necessário saber algumas coisas sobre a comunicação com eles. Os gestos mais comuns usados pela comunicação formal não-verbal quando se conhecem novas pessoas são o aperto de mão e o olhar nos olhos. Desta forma, eles mostram interesse na outra pessoa. Além isso, um olhar demorado entre duas pessoas pode expressar interesse romântico.
Os melhores temas que pode escolher são política, arte, desporto (futebol principalmente) e música (com especial atenção para o Fado), para manter os Portugueses interessados na sua conversa, mantendo um modo de falar calmo e educado. Comunicar com os Portugueses é sempre interessante e traz apenas emoções positivas. Então, boa sorte na construção de novas amizades!
Portugalai yra labai paslaugūs, tiesmuki, nepaisantys Vakarų Europai įprastų elgesio visuomenėje taisyklių. Jie yra atviri ir draugiški, dėmesingi ir paslaugūs. Portugalai sveikinasi su nepažįstamais žmonėmis, visada nurodys kelio kryptį, o paklausti apie geriausią miesto restoraną išvardys bent dešimt.
Nemokantieji portugalų kalbos šalyje didelių nesusipratimų nepatirs. Portugalai neignoruoja tokių žmonių ir situaciją sprendžia pasitelkę išraiškingą gestų kalbą ir humorą. Tokie gestų pokalbiai dažnai baigiasi kurioziškais rezultatais, ypač restoranuose. Bandymai kalbėti portugalų kalba visada bus sutikti su pagarba ir atsiprašymais, kad ją „labai sunku išmokti“. Ši kalba nėra ispanų kalbos atmaina ar tokia pat, todėl nepatartina jų painioti, o ispanų kalbos griebtis paskutiniu atveju (nebent šeimininkai portugalai paragintų ja kalbėti).
Kad ir kokie iš pažiūros laisvai bendraujantys portugalai atrodytų, vertėtų žinoti keletą dalykų apie bendravimą su jais. Dažniausiai portugalų naudojami formalios neverbalinės komunikacijos ženklai susipažįstant su naujais žmonėmis – rankos paspaudimas ir žvilgsnis į akis. Tokiu būdu jie rodo susidomėjimą pašnekovu. Tuo tarpu ilgas dvejų žmonių žvilgsnis gali reikšti romantišką susidomėjimą.
Norėdami sudominti savo pašnekovą, geriau rinkites temas apie politiką, meną, sportą (ypač futbolą) arba muziką (skiriant ypatingą dėmesį fado), o kalbėjimo manierą išlaikykite ramią ir mandagią.
Bendravimas su portugalais visada yra įdomus ir atneša vien pozityvias emocijas. Tad sėkmės mezgant naujas pažintis!
Communicating with Portuguese
Portuguese people are very helpful, straightforward, regardless to the usual rules of conduct in Western Europe societies. They are open and friendly, attentive and helpful. Portuguese greet strangers, always indicate the direction of the road and asked about the best restaurant in the city, they list at least ten.
Those, who do not know Portuguese language, will not experience serious misunderstandings. Portuguese people do not ignore foreigners and solve the situation invoking gestures and humour. Such “conversations” often end with curious results, especially in restaurants. Attempts to speak Portuguese will always be received with respect and the apology that it is "very difficult to learn it". This language is not Spanish or the strain of it, and therefore it is not advisable to mix them. What is more, use Spanish in the last case (unless the Portuguese incite to speak this language).
No matter how free in communicating Portuguese seem to be, it is appropriate to know few things about communication with them. The most commonly used signs of formal non-verbal communication while meeting new people are handshake and the look in your eyes. In this way, they are showing interest in companion. Meanwhile, long look between two people can express romantic interest.
It would be better to choose topics on politics, art, sports (particularly football) and music (with special attention to Fado), to make Portuguese interested in conversation with you, and keep a manner of speaking quiet and polite.
