Cabo Verde


Žaliojo Kyšulio salų istorija

Žaliojo Kyšulio salos, kurios nutolusios nuo Senegalo krantų 450 km, yra pačiame Atlanto vandenyno viduryje. Salų pavadinimas „Žaliasis iškyšulys“ manoma kilo dėl to, kad nuo Senegalo krantų salų kontūras atrodo tamsiai žalias. Žaliąjį Kyšulį sudaro 10 salų ir 8 salelės. Vulkaninės kilmės Žaliojo Kyšulio salos yra visiškai skirtingos. Kai kurioms saloms būdingas kalnuotas kraštovaizdis, kitos pasižymi ilgais smėlėtais paplūdimiais. Žaliasis Kyšulys sudarytas iš šių salų: Sao Antao, Sao Vicente, Santa Luzia, Sao Nicolau, Sal, Boavista, Maio, Santiago, Fogo, Brava. Salose gyvena 427 000 gyventojų. Sostinė Praia yra įsikūrusi Santiago saloje. Oficiali Žaliojo Kyšulio salų kalba– portugalų, tačiau vietiniai žmonės kalba kreolų kalba (mišinys tarp portugalų ir Afrikos kalbų). Dėka palankios geografinės padėties salų gyventojai ir keliautojai gali mėgautis puikiu klimatu, kur vyraujanti metinė vidutinė oro temperatūra yra 24-26 laipsniai šilumos, o vandens temperatūra - 22 laipsniai šilumos.
Šiandien Žaliasis Kyšulys – tai sparčiai besivystanti valstybė, garsėjanti taika ir socialiniu stabilumu. Ši valstybė užima 3 vietą pagal išsivystymo lygį tarp Afrikos valstybių. Salos pastarąjį dešimtmetį labai išpopuliarėjo tarp Vakarų Europos turistų ir nepriklausomų keliautojų. Salas kaip tinkamas ir patrauklias turizmui pirmieji atrado italai, o jas dar XV a. kolonizavo portugalai. Nepriklausomybę iš Portugalijos diktatūros salos atgavo tik 1980 m. Neveltui šios salos vadinamos laukinėmis, nes iki XV a. nebuvo apgyvendintos ir net dabar kai kurios mažesnės salos nėra nuolatos gyvenamos. XV a. portugalai kolonizavo Žaliąjį Kyšulį ir Santiago saloje įkūrė Cidade Velha. Siekiant vystyti žemės ūkį, aptarnauti atplaukiančius prekybinius bei vergų laivus, į Cape Verde iš vakarų Afrikos pakrantės atgabenti pirmieji vergai. Per kelis šimtmečius salose tarpusavyje maišėsi įvairios Afrikos gentys ir baltieji kolonistai, todėl šiandien antropologai suskaičiuoja net 70 skirtingų odos atspalvių, pasitaikančių tarp vietos gyventojų. Nuo pat šalies istorijos pradžios Žaliojo Kyšulio gyventojų daugumą sudaro metisai: 80 procentų gyventojų yra metisai, 17 procentų – juodaodžiai ir 3 procentai – baltieji. Salos paženklintos ne tik vergove, bet ir nuolat pasikartojančiu badu. Badas įveiktas tik XX a. pradžioje. 
Gyvenimas Žaliajame Kyšulyje
Žaliojo Kyšulio kultūra - europietiškos ir afrikietiškos kultūros mišinys. Tradicinė salų muzika yra morna, kurią po pasaulį išgarsino dainininkė Cesária Évora. Taip pat populiari muzika yra kizomba, portugališkos-afrikietiškos muzikos ir šokio mišinys funaná. Žymiausi šalies rašytojai - Luís Romano de Madeira Melo, Ovídio Martins, Sergio Frusoni, Manuel Lopes.  
Papročiai. Vasario/kovo mėnesį visose salose vyksta karnavalai, trunkantys bent savaitę. Pirmąjį rugpjūčio savaitgalį Sao Vicente saloje vyksta Baia da Gatas muzikos festivalis, žinomiausias Vakarų Afrikoje.
 Virtuvė. Žaliojo kyšulio salų virtuvėje susipynė portugalų ir Vakarų Afrikos maisto ruošimo tradicijos, labai populiarūs žuvies ir jūros gėrybių patiekalai. Tradiciniai patiekalai: pastel com diablo dentro („pyragėlis, įdarytas velniu“), cachupa arba coldo de peixe.


Cape Verde History
Cape Verde Islands, distanced from the coast of Senegal for about 450 km, are located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The name of Islands "Cape Verde" maybe came because that from the coast of Senegal these Islands look darkly green. Cape Verde is composed of 10 islands and 8 islets. The Islands of Cape Verde are volcanogenic and very different. Some of them have a mountainous landscape; the others are marked by longs, sandy beaches. Cape Verde is composed of these islands: : Sao Antao, Sao Vicente, Santa Luzia, Sao Nicolau, Sal, Boavista, Maio, Santiago, Fogo, Brava. In the Islands live 427 000 habitants. The capital Praia is in the Santiago Island. The official language of Cape Verde is Portuguese, but local people are talking Creole (is a mix of Portuguese and languages of Africa). Thanks to a good geographical position the habitants and tourists can enjoy excellent climate, where the average temperature of the year is 24-26 degrees and the water’s temperature is 22 degrees.
Today Cape Verde – it’s a fast developing country, which’s known by the peace and social stability. This country takes a third place by a level of development between the countries of Africa. The Islands are becoming more and more popular the last decade between the tourists from the West of Europe and the independents tourists. The Islands as suitable and attractive to tourism were discovered by Italians, later these Islands were colonized by the Portuguese in the 15th century. The independence from a dictatorship of Portugal Cape Verde retrieved just in 1980. These islands are named wild not without a reason, they were unpopulated till 15th century and even now there are some small islands without a permanent residents. In 15th century Portuguese colonized Cape Verde and created Cidade Velha in the Santiago Island. In pursuance to develop rural economy, to serve commercial ships and the ships of slaves, there were brought the first slaves to Cape Verde from the west cost of Africa. During some centuries in the Islands various tribes of Africa and the colonists have been mixing, so nowadays anthropologists count even 70 various colours of skin between the local residents. Since the beginning of country’s history the majority of Cape Verde’s residents are mestizos: 80% of residents are mestizos, 17% are black people and 3% are white people.  The Islands are marked not just by slavery, but also by a repeating famine. Famine has been overcame just in the beginning of 20th century.
Life in Cape Verde

The culture of Cape Verde is a mix of European and African cultures. Traditional music of the Islands is “morna”, which is popular in the world thanks to a singer Cesária Évora. Another popular style of music is “coladeira” and also a mix of Portuguese and African music and dance – “funaná”. The most famous writers are Luís Romano de Madeira Melo, Ovídio Martins, Sergio Frusoni, Manuel Lopes.

Traditions. During February/ March there are carnivals in all the Islands which continues at least a week. The first week-end of August in the Island Sao Vicente a festival Baia da Gatas takes place and it’s the most famous festival in West Africa.

Cuisine. In cuisine of Cape Verde the traditions of Portuguese and West Africa cooking are mixed, the most popular are fish dishes and seafood. The traditional dishes are:  pastel com diablo dentro, cachupa or coldo de peixe.
